Golden Liquid
Installation project, 2024, collaboration project with Lao Zhen Tao, inkjet-printed photos, Motorcycle parts, video projector, construction canvas, variable dimension
Using the Malaysian folklore figure of the 'oil ghost' as its prototype, this hybrid installation is composed of discarded motor tools connected with burlap symbolizing biological skin, forming an imagined industrial process and narrative. It reconstructs a narrative based on the social contradictions and crises caused by the powerful influence of peak oil on transportation, politics, and the economy in Southeast Asian oil-producing nations. Why do humans become thieves, and why do they willingly turn into ghosts? When black oil is smeared on the body, it acts like a protective talisman, yet greed and lust bring forth spectral forms of desire and consumption.
