The Seduction of Hunger
Photography, Ongoing series (2020- )
The Seduction of Hunger is an ongoing series of artistic research that explores the inner tension of post-capitalist objecthood and human corporality; metaphorical knitting of wastes, foods, poor-qualities objects, and sexualised composition. This photography series started in 2020, the first year of the global pandemic crisis caused by COVID 19, where the panic has struck and caused a worldwide product shortage. Limited choices and wealth amplified my dependence on cheap factory-made products during the lockdown period. And thus, it made me reconsider their relationship with us and decided to take a sensitive approach to this subject.
Photos are taken in the quotidian environment, where the objects were given the reason for their presence. However, they were uncannily absurd with the specific composition, in which I attempt to evoke the viewers’ body imagined senses according to the image. And the delicate lighting on these cheap items created a bipolar theatrical atmosphere, where fascination and repugnance interweave, where body and product are at the same height.
