Body of Distance / Body of Needs

Drawings Series, 2018-2021, pencil and ink on paper, 29.75x42 cm each

These drawings were initially made as sketches of unrealized performance works and function as parallel reflections of my overall creation. Nonetheless, as the practice go on, they eventually became a series of their own. In the drawings, the men and women stay on their profile site and mostly sitting on unified chairs. Bodies and faces were more or less blurred while their uniforms remain solid. And these detached and faded bodies turned movements into emanative lines, scratchy colours, and static images of body parts and objects: a Kafka-ish desire of resistance. Even though they escaped temporarily through metaphorization, their senses and touches are excluded from the viewers, forced to return as frustrated creatures caged under formalized surveillance.

Distances and needs were pushed, once more, into their new definition under our pandemic eras. And like a sort of indication manual, these drawings are, to me, important reflections of what formation m Drawings Series, 2018-2021, installation view y body sensed and failed to exit.
