Chamber of a Loosing Chain and Unknown Temperature

Installation in washroom, 2021, abandoned chair stand, metal chain, broken thermometer, variable dimension

In the washroom, a pair of broken chairs were attached by an untied metal chain, stands in front of a broken thermometer which was hidden in a corner next to the radiator. Dried detergents covered the mirror with their translucent traces, foams were filled inside the flush toilet. The whole room was overwhelmed by the pungent smell of chemical products.

Like other recent works, this project aimed to explore the boundaries and possibilities of the environment with which the viewers interfere and settle. Not as an architecturally designed installation, but as an ambiance that seizes our body’s senses. As a narrative spatial experience engaging with the act of art visits, a detuning displacement of art and architecture functionality, a hint of sexual desire, and a question of our repugnance of disorder, through the alienated use of cleaning liquids. This project is an early result of the under development idea and will change with the space where it is displayed.
